Well done Sarah! What is wrong with having a strong woman in the whitehouse?

This does nothing to introduce palin to anyone. All it does is prove she can read. You can never for a minute convince me that she wrote this (self congratulatory) speech herself: she just read it. She is totally, totally unqualified for the position of VP.
And you are unqualified to make that decision? Barack Obama is unqualified to be President. He has no executive experience. She does. And he is at the top of his ticket. All Barack Obama has proven is that he can read. When he doesn't have a teleprompter in front of him he makes Bush look like Einstein. "Ummmm uhhhh Ummmm uhhhhhhh"
George Bush's speechwriter could have written this - it's "feel-good", "you're-like-me" stuff, read by someone who used to do sports-news on TV.
Getting to the meat will be a lot tougher here, and not because her daughter's peccadilloes.
Being mayor in a 9,000 person town means getting the water and sewers to run, getting your roads plowed, administering the local library, roads department and school system. (I know, I live in a town of 4,000 in Maine).
Being Governor in a state that has massive budget surpluses because of oil revenues (and no income tax and no sales tax) means not having to make the hard choices of budgetary priorities. It is impossilbe to believe that the person who gives every resident in the state an annual "dividend" check is doesn't have an approval rating like Santa Claus, provided he/she keeps their nose reasonably clean (which Murkowski and now Stevens didn't).
Having virtually never traveled outside the country until the last year is not the best training for understanding the issues of foreign affairs she would face on January 20 if McCain is suddenly disabled. I can only imagine that Vladimir Putin must be rolling on the floor laughing about this choice.
My wife fishes, kayaks, and brought two chain saws to the marriage - and was dumbfounded by this as gutting moose somehow breaks the glass ceiling.
By the time Reagan was finishing his time in office, he clearly had early Alzheimer's Disease. With all the well-qualified Republican women he could have picked (Kay Hutchinson, Olympia Snowe, etc.), this does nothing more than indicate impaired judgment from the beginning. Perhaps part of the Presidential Annual Physical at Bethesda Naval Hospital should include a "Mini Mental Status Exam"...
I find it funny that she made reference to Obama as being a "Washington elite". Has she checked out the man she's running on the ticket with? Guess her speech writers didn't think that one through.
I guess you have a point. MCCain is Washington Elite. Oh year by about 25 more years than Obama. He has voted yes and no on major issues that affect you and me. Unlike Obama who has voted present 130 times. Oh yeah, Obama voted for babies that are aborted that live to be killed. He said it was a slippery slope that if he voted to make it illegal to kill those surviving aborted babies then it might overturn Roe v. Wade. That's sick. Oh yeah and on Foreign policy Obama's advice for Russia and Georgia was take it to the United Nations. Russia has Veto power. Obama is an idiot.
Oh my goodness, thanks Trey, I needed a good laugh before work this morning and your comment certainly humored me!
You said: "Obama voted for babies that are aborted that live to be killed"
Show me EXACTLY where he voted for "...babies...to be killed".
Back up that statement.
I dare you.
I would laugh at this comment, too, if it wasn't so telling about the kind of people who will be voting this and every other year. There are millions of people out there equally as ignorant and uneducated. It really makes you wonder whether there should be some sort of intelligence requirement for voting. Only in the best of all possible worlds I suppose ..
She is a breath of fresh air. Obama and Biden are carbon monoxide. I would sleep well at night knowing she is a heartbeat away from protecting this country. I would vote for her for president. What a class act.
" The Democratic nominee for president supports plans to raise income taxes ... raise payroll taxes ... raise investment income taxes ... raise the death tax ... raise business taxes ... and increase the tax burden on the American people by hundreds of billions of dollars. My sister Heather and her husband have just built a service station that's now opened for business - like millions of others who run small businesses.
How are they going to be any better off if taxes go up? Or maybe you're trying to keep your job at a plant in Michigan or Ohio ... or create jobs with clean coal from Pennsylvania or West Virginia ... or keep a small farm in the family right here in Minnesota.
How are you going to be better off if our opponent adds a massive tax burden to the American economy? Here's how I look at the choice Americans face in this election.
In politics, there are some candidates who use change to promote their careers.
And then there are those, like John McCain, who use their careers to promote change. " --Sarah Palin 9/3/2008

Yes, Obama will raise your taxes if you make 227k and higher... Not sure how you'll survive :/ Let's keep in mind the AVERAGE FAMILY makes a lot less than this :D and they would get a higher tax break from Obama than McCain About the death tax... I don't know what we'll do with *slightly* poorer Paris Hilton types >< Also Obama's tax plans don't look out for Smith Barney and the like, but they do look out for small business (is this a bad thing??) And if you're worried about the trickle down effect.. when was the last time your cable bill was lowered becuase Comcast received a tax break? It doesn't trickle down!!

Wow, what an awesome little woman Sarah Palin. She became (just as I expected) my worst enemy when I heard the announcement that this flag-waving hockey mom from Alaska was named as the Republican VP candidate by john McCain.
I have just listened to her speech tonight at the Republican National Convention is ridiculous. Her indulgence on-and-on about her running mate McCain was totally insane. Forty or more years ago he was a POW. Wow, that's a long time ago; I've thank(ed) him and countless others time and time again and I'm happy to see that McCain is alive and kicking and has overcome all that. Well 15 years ago I had a brain tumor and expected to die. I survived and rehabilitated myself, no thanks to the lousy health care plan I had. Then I was diagnosed with cancer 5 years ago—the same kind as McCain has, melanoma, but this was in my vaginal area. A major surgery, removing parts of my privates and some lymph nodes in addition. But I do not—NEVER—introduce myself as a VICTIM of these experiences in my life. In addition, I have been married to a verbally abusive man, then to a pathological liar and addict. But no one who knows me is aware of this at all.
Yet, the McCain campaign and his cronies including Ms Pain, bring this up at every crossing (even on the TONIGHT show with Jay Leno this past month).
I've served my community equally as well as McCain or Ms Pain, through service as a sports organizer, soccer, softball, and basketball coach, YMCA board member community organizations— youth, sports, and residential of nature. I have run/walked in many events supporting the Susan G Komen Foundation, AIDS Foundation, Diabetes Association, Lupus/ Lymphoma Association, Arthritis Foundation, and many, many more. I donate to the Planned Parenthood Association. Oops, that's where I guess the difference lies.
Sarah believes it's not my right to do that. She prophesizes that I should forego such measures to prevent births at any cost… and so should all women, even in incidences of rape or in danger of death to themselves. Oh my, I guess that makes a hockey mom supreme?? Who died and appointed hockey moms Goddesses of the universe???
Piss on McCain and McPain. Vote Obama/Biden in November, for a righteous and refreshing CHANGE.

And what have you done for your country? I am sorry to hear about your cancer. I wish you well and hope you will do the right thing come election time and vote for a man who will not destroy the health care industry by limiting your choices for care by imposing limits on Doctors abilities to help you as it will be government sponsored. Take care. God bless.

I can't help but noticed that you asked someone who has donated to the Susan G Komen Foundation, AIDS Foundation, Diabetes Association, Lupus/ Lymphoma Association, and the Arthritis Foundation, as well as someone who organized sports and served on a local YMCA board what she's done for her country. Really? I felt like that was explained.
Perhaps you felt she was doing too much for her community by getting kids involved in sports and health activities and keeping them off the streets or out of television and not enough for her entire country by supporting foundations fighting breast cancer, AIDS, diabetes, and Lupus.

Terrorist states are seeking new-clear weapons without delay ... he wants to meet them without preconditions.
I think the word is nuclear, doesn't anyone proof read your transcripts?
I think I almost ruptured some organs laughing when I read "new-clear." Good thing she's got someone to spell out those really scary polysyllabic words for her...
Everyone should do yourselves a favor and do the research on each party before you vote!!!! There are things such as voting records, YOU CAN LOOK THEM UP, put them side by side. After doing this... you can decide who is putting on the show. I hope that you would want to take the time to do your research. I don't know about you but I want fact based evidence, not the he say she say crap. Like my sis says this is not T.V. shopping, take it seriously!

Great job by the speech writers, but I can't help wishing I could hear what she would say if she wasn't reading from a script written by others. I do wonder.
The fanatic Islamic militants are referred to as radicals. Could the same terms be used for fanatic Christian militants? I would prefer a gentler world without the extreme zealots on either end of the beam. And I really do wonder if this beautiful woman has anything worth looking at in her cranial vault.

What is funny is that her husband is part of the group that wanted Alaska to separate from the USA and become it's own country.Another thing she was reading from a script written by the McCain campaign. She has no idea about foreign policy and only has a bachelor degree from collage and governs a state with about 650,000 people for least then two years. She also hired lobbyist and sits her and says she is against them.Obama has a degree from Harvard university in law turned down a job on wall street to help the middle class and the poor get job and Biden has way more foreign policy experience then she will ever have in a million years and he is respected here in the Usa and abroad. What kind of degree does McCain have and how about his temper a person with a short fuse to run this country.I say this again and again PEOPLE IN AMERICA WAKE UP PLEASE WAKE UP THE REPUBLICANS ARE NOT FOR THE MIDDLE CLASS AND THE POOR THEY ARE ONLY FOR THE RICH AND BIG CORPORATIONS OF AMERICA AND WHO ARE THESE BIG CORPORATIONS THEY ARE THE LOBBYIST WHO BUY THESE REPUBLICANS OUT AND MAKE THE SMALL BUSINESS PEOPLE FADE WAY BECAUSE OF THERE GREED THE BIG GREEN $$$$.

I've met pleanty of idiots who graduated from Ivy League schools. Just because a person could afford or be given a great education (probably because he is a minority) doesn't make them gifted to lead. It doesn't make you a better person.
By the way, as a person with a B.S. degree myself, I noticed you misspelled the word "college."
Wow! Gov. Palin exceeded all expectations tonight. Hillary Clinton's Communications Dir. Howard Wolson couldn't have said it better tonight - Dems are right to be afraid of Palin; they need to be very afraid of her.
I noticed many people here on this post are trashing her. I also noticed that almost all of you are dissing insignificant things - oh, she didn't write all of her speech, your perceived mispronunciation of a word. Take a look at the whole picture - What about her accomplishments, her executive experience? She is the MOST popular governor in this country, and is a woman of great accomplishment.
And she gave a great speech tonight.
Palin is scary. Earlier this year she stated that America in Iraq is God's plan. She has no qualms with your average citizen having a personal arsenal. She is far too inexperienced to be vice president.
I am Canadian. Why is it that you Americans need to feel your president is someone you'd like to share a beer with? Why do they have to be religious and profess this religiosity on the public stage? All that matters is whether he or she can govern fairly and wisely. Aristocratic, blue collar, Christian, Jew or aetheist - none of this should be of the least consequence. However, this woman will drag her religious baggage into the public arena and affect change that is based on a narrow set of dogmatic beliefs.
Five years ago we had a prime minister here who pushed through legislation that made gay marriages equal before the law. He was a devout Catholic but said it would be wrong for his religious convictions to influence his public role as the leader of the country. I really repected him for this. And what has been the fallout from legalizing gay marriages? Absolutley nothing. As another Prime Minister said when scrapping the laws against sodomy in the early '70's, "The government has no place in the bedrooms of the nation".
If you people once again vote for the Republican ticket, you are truly screwed up. The rest of the Western world watches and scratches our heads. How could you possibly elect Bush twice? And now possibly Mcain and Palin? You'v got the highest rate of violent crime in the Western world, the highest rate of teen pregnacny, the most people without medical coverage, and one of the highest drop out rates from school. Do yourselves a favor, and go Democratic this November. (Message from a devout heterosexual)
"I guess a small-town mayor is sort of like a "community organizer," except that you have actual responsibilities." It's comments like these that show me how out of touch Sarah Palin, Jonh McCain and their constituents actually are. An individual who tirelessly and pragmatically advocates for those needing representing and inspires others to do so deserves more respect than this.
During the DNC, the delegates and the candidates, while criticizing McCain on the issues, praised and honored him for serving our country in the military. However, individuals such as Palin and Giuliani, degraded Obama's role as a community organizer. It appears, by such comments, that serving one's country on the homefront is not deserving of respect.
If Sarah Palin wants to "to challenge the status quo, to serve the common good, and to leave this nation better than we found it", she should start by paying some respect to those who have actively involved themselves in such pursuits.

As far as I was concerned, Palin had to make those comments. The news media and DNC were making her look like a person with no experience. She detailed her experience clearly and set the record straight. Stop being so overly sensitive.
Has anyone noticed that Barack Obama's website has the main part of its homepage dedicated to bringing attention to the victims of the hurricane? On Senator McCain's website its the fourth TAB on the main visual newsbox. You would never even know about it given the visual noise on the page.
I think this says a LOT about the differences between the two candidates and who really puts America first.
Cut me a break! McCain postponed the RNC for the victims and posted telephone numbers to call to raise money for the victims.
Obama is pandering. You don't see him running to Louisiana to help the people.
I took the time to watch both the DNC and RNC. People need to stop identifying themselves with a party, and start identifying themselves as Americans. Open your eyes and ears. Listen to what is NOT being said.
Now who is putting American first?
I AM AN UNDECIDED VOTER, REPUBLICANS AND DEMOCRATS, HELP ME!!!!
I have been watching and reading about the DNC and RNC as much as I can, even though I'm an American citizen overseas - not in the armed forces. I approached this presidential race with a want to hear both political stories and hear what they have in store for America and compare issues – domestic policy, foreign policy, energy, environmental directives including global warming, taxes, healthcare, the war in Iraq, education. I watched Obama, Biden, and now Sarah Palin.
I can not figure anywhere in Sarah Palin's speech what she had to say about any of these issues, except energy, for the upcoming 4 years. I know she has gotten rid of her luxury jet and personal chef. But as an undecided voter, I wasn't sure what that really meant about anything.
She has also said "thanks, but no thanks" to the "bridge to nowhere". The media I have been listening to however has claimed that primarily she was saying yes to the whole bridge and that it was a "bridge to somewhere". Can someone please explain the background on this?
She discussed the 40 billion natural gas pipeline, but does anyone know the background on this issue? What was the opposition to this project and for what reasons?
The "dependence on oil" issue – She stated that Americans need to produce our own oil, but how? I have heard something about that she's in favor of oil drilling in the Arctic refuge? Is there other plans she propose?
She said that with the Palin and McCain administration, they will build new clear-plants? What exactly is this?
What is her position on global warming?
She has stated that her opponent has written two memoirs, but hasn't enacted a single law reform. Is she correct in saying this?
There was quite a litany about what her opponent wants to do about taxes, but what is exactly her and McCain's plan about tax code? Here, I am mystified because either I missed it somehow or she didn't state at all what the Republican ticket has in mind.
I feel like Sarah Palin was maybe a good choice for McCain and for our nation, but I really feel disconnected from her and her speech and what direction she and McCain has in store for our country. I am apt to say that I am feeling she doesn't address the issues that are important to me.
Why didn't she talk about what her and McCain propose to do about healthcare, taxes, environmental policies, foreign policy, the rising cost of college tuition, the current educational issues with public schooling in BOTH rural and urban locations, the war in Iraq, Afghanistan and Pakistan?
ANYONE, PLEASE DISCUSS, NO MATTER IF YOU ARE REPUBLICAN OR DEMOCRAT.

I totally agree with you. Why is it the Republicans always seem to put their energies into attacking the other side? (Of course I know why - it beefs up their popularity among those people who can't see through the smoke and mirrors. ) Kerry was brought down this way, and he sure as hell would have made a better president that Bush - a point anyone should be able to see in retrospect.
Just to address a few of the posts I've read here...
First, Palin did discuss some of the McCain-Palin platform, especially in regards to energy. Not only are we looking towards energy independence, putting these alternatives into action will create more jobs for Americans. That's a good thing. Also, this is her acceptance speech for Vice President. This is not really the place for her to be spouting platform. Biden didn't itemize either.
Second, someone mentioned that Palin wants to take away abortion rights. This is such a non issue at this point. No one is going to reverse Roe v Wade. Get serious. Besides, McCain isn't a pro-lifer.
As for why Republicans "always" have to attack the other side... Unfortunately, that's often the only way they can get their views across and in the media. Also, that's just a basic tenet of debate- sometimes you have to draw attention to your opponent's weakness in order to have an opportunity to show your strengths. One thing people are glossing over, however, is that everyone who spoke Wednesday night was a former contender for President and not one of them had ever said McCain wouldn't make a good president. That can't be said of Biden, Clinton, or Obama- each of them belittled the other during the campaign for the Democratic Presidential nomination. At least Republicans are attacking their opponents, and not people on their own team.
Also, do some research on the candidates. Go to the Washington Post for voting records of every congressman. Read the candidates' speeches- a lot of times we are swept up by their oratorary skills and don't even hear what they're saying. Then make your decision. Be informed!
This is a huge election, and it's true that change is needed. Obama is the same old leftist talk in a different package. McCain marches to his own beat and seems like Palin is an independent thinker as well. Hopefully the voters will think independently also.
And ps- to whoever said "leave religion out of this" in response to someone's use of "Amen"... Amen is derived from the Hebrew and simply means "It is so."
Trey-491309 You said "He has no executive experience." Tell me what does an executive do? I mean besides pushing papers, playing golf, and collecting huge salaries. What do they do? What does the Gov in your state do? My rides his horse in the back forty, makes promo ads about the state on his horse, and goes to all the county fairs. Really tell me what does your Gov do?
Honestly, I thought is was pretty good. I didn't see how she delivered it though so I might have a better opinion later after I watch it. I hope the "new-clear" parts are just typos. I think she's actually saying "nuclear." I kind of thought she contradicted herself towards the end when she said, "This world of threats and dangers is not just a community, and it doesn't just need an organizer." She described herself as a mayor being sort of like a "community organizer" the first parts of her speech. She does have some experience, but I'm still worried about how she would run a country if anything happens to Grandpa Mac...LOL. According to WikiAnswers, average life span for white males is 85 yrs. old. I think it was 78 around 2005, but still just by looking I don't think Grandpa Mac is in perfect health. I really believe Alzheimer's is creeping up on him and it's kind of scary. I would like to vote, but at this point I don't really know who to vote for.
INDEED SHE IS AN OLD LETTER IN A NEW ENVELOPE. we've seen it and we've been there since Regean. WE ALL KNOW SHE IS A PIECE OF CHESS IN A BIGGER GAME CONTROLE BY THE GOODWILL OF GOOD OLD BOYS IN WASHINGTON..

As a nobody but a nobody with a vote I wish to disagree with many of you. Just because you are woman does not give you any extra rights to be the boss. You are boss of your own body. This lady wishes to take that right away from you. That's really going back to the time frame when Sen McCain was a POW. All you so called arm chair politicians are probably not facing foreclosure, worrying about where you will get the money to pay your electric bill. So because you are a Governor of the one of the most beautiful states but one of the states that is least populated and not facing the challenges many other big states and cities do, where you can still live off the land if necessary, she has no clue. I'm sorry I think Sen McCain could have done better. Anyone can make insults and I believe she is way over her head in this game. She wants to play dirty, I think she is in for a big surprise and hopefully Sen McCain can remember his speech, Oh that's right, he can always read it...

PS I would have loved to been the hairdresser at the RNC. I could have made my fortune. Compare the crowds ......plastic hair and faces. I was impressed.
Great speech! I watched it twice and I admire and like her. She is a woman who knows what has to be done and she does it. She has guts and isn't afraid to do the work. It goes to show you that you don't have to graduate from an Ivy League school to be intelligent and do the right thing.
By the way, whomever transcribed the speech for MSNBC doesn't know how to spell "nuclear." They spelled it "new clear."
I loved the speech. It showed great strength, confidence and poise. While I don't necessarily agree with everything she said, she certainly delivered for the RNC.
I particularly loved the attacks on Biden and Obama's experience. Did Obama really vote present 130 times like Rudy said? How lame.
Biden's been a loser forever and Obama could have picked a lot better. I think Bill Richardson would have locked it up. As it is, he left room for the "pit bull with lipstick" to blow open the door.

I thought her joke, "the only difference between a hockey mom and a pitt bull is the lipstick" was in very bad taste, given that pitt bulls account for a disproportionate number of injuries and fatalities to the point that they are banned in some places (such as the Province of Ontario).
Here's the one line out of her long acceptance speech that scared me the most.
"Al Qaeda terrorists still plot to inflict catastrophic harm on America ... he's worried that someone won't read them their rights?"
She was referring to Obama, of course. He wants to abide by our laws and our constitutional rights. She wants to arrest "suspected terrorists" and not afford them any constitutional rights. Under her and John McCain's administration they would be convicted before even being arrested and read their rights. Oh Yeah, this is the woman I would like to see a heartbeat away from the Presidency --- NOT!
I have finally figured it out –Sarah Pailn wants to get us into a war with everyone Russia-Iran-Venezuela for starters and of course to continue the wars in Iraq and Afghanistan.
"With Russia wanting to control a vital pipeline in the Caucasus, and to divide and intimidate our European allies by using energy as a weapon, we cannot leave ourselves at the mercy of foreign suppliers."
"To confront the threat that Iran might seek to cut off nearly a fifth of world energy supplies ... or that terrorists might strike again at the Abqaiq facility in Saudi Arabia ... or that Venezuela might shut off its oil deliveries ... we Americans need to produce more of our own oil and gas."
Given the bellicose tone of her rhetoric last night I am convinced that Sarah is in fact a Palindrome – Dogma I am God
